Photographic blueprints of sunflowers. The sunflower. Totally worn out. And yet, different paths brought me again and again to that flower that has been the subject of art countless times. Perhaps it was for this very reason that I decided to turn the sunflower completely inside out and take it as my subject for my exploration of new paths in the photographic process.
A journey back to the craft. Looking for unexpected things. An attempt to find the magic of the photographic process again. Being open to mistakes and being surprised by the results. And finding out that digital photography and analogue printing techniques can enhance each other.
The original series consist of 32 cyanotype prints. All prints are made according to a blueprint grid containing 8 photographs, 3 types of paper and 5 toners. Together with Pim Leenen I transformed his 50 MP perfect photographs into living prints, combining one of the most technologically advanced camera’s with an 1842 photographic process.
